Breton Brewing and Famous Folks partner in branding Cape Breton’s most exciting new export

Since launching on June 27th, Breton Brewing Co’s craft beer has been in such high demand, they’re upscaling infrastructure to keep up with sales.
While the popularity of their product is incredibly exciting for the partners Andrew Morrow and Bryan MacDonald, the success is by design. The Sydney-based company and brand has been built for growth and Breton has not been treating their business as a start-up. To them, it’s a passion coming to life and they’ve always kept their eyes on a future that includes scalable growth.
In an attempt to build a brand that truly reflected the organizations’ roots, Breton approached Halifax/Toronto-based agency, Famous Folks, an agency that just happens to be run by Cape Breton natives. Together, the teams have built a shared vision for the Brewery.
“It’s been amazing working with Famous Folks to build our brand,” says Bryan MacDonald, Partner at Breton Brewing. “From the ground up, they’ve helped us with confirming our name, logos, social content and packaging design for our first four beer styles. We’ll continue working with Famous Folks as we grow our business. In terms of creativity and execution, this team knocks it out of the park every single time.”
The meeting of the minds has lead to some positive unintended consequences. The brand has been so well-received that the merchandise, which wasn’t expected to be a large revenue stream, is selling faster than they can keep it on the selves. Over $20K in merchandise has been sold in less than 14 weeks. More importantly, beer sales have at times outpaced the facility’s capacity. Breton has already had to add a new tank to service the growing demand.
“Andrew and Bryan have really thought this through,” says Jay Dingwall, CEO of Famous Folks. “They’ve built a brand that clearly represents their product and values. When I sat with them in 2014, they had a vision, and they were keen to get people who could help them. They’ve given us the rope to build wicked stories around their product – which sets us up for incredible content in the future. Our staff is so bought into the brand that they’re crafting new content for fun and sharing it at any hour of the day.”
Now available in 24 establishments across Nova Scotia, Breton continues to innovate and expand its offering, including the aforementioned 4th beer, Breton’s first seasonal – Celtic Colours Maple Lager, launching simultaneously as the world renowned Cape Breton festival in October that bears its name.
